Definition - WJ Competency Index

After materials are selected, they are acquired and processed. The goal is to provide responsive and proactive service to users through timely and efficient processing. Acquisitions staff:

  • Manage the processes by which library materials are ordered, received and tracked.
  • Manage the expenditures and accounting for acquisitions.

The Competency Index for the Library Field includes Acquisition & Processing on pages 14 & 15.

Training Needs Assessment Rankings

Acquisiton ranked #23 out of 51 self-identified urgent training needs.  It ranked #19 out of 60 topics staff would like training in.  55% (64) of respondents indicated they would like training at the Beginner level, 24% (28) would like training at the Intermediate level, and 21% (24) would like training at the Advanced level.

One of the best websites for all sorts of information on acquisitions. Included at this site are lists of publishers, vendors, pricing guides, related listservs and websites, and much more. Although this site is no longer being updated, it remains a good starting point.
