Mental Health Monday: Save $$ With the Library

by Michelle Wynne-Feigin on 2024-10-21T09:00:00-04:00 | 0 Comments

October is Financial Planning Month, and the DHSS Library is here to help you save money with your Delaware library card!

1)  DHSS employees can sign up for a FREE Delaware library card with the DHSS Library, regardless of state of residence. Normally, out-of-state residents would pay $40/year. If you are interested, email the DHSS Library to receive an application.

2)  Not sure what is available at our library? Search through the library catalog! If you find yourself a frequent visitor to Amazon or Barnes and Noble, download the free web browser extension, Library Extension, available on Chrome, Edge, and Firefox. The extension will show you whether the books, eBooks, or audiobooks you are browsing are available at your local library. It even provides links to the library catalog, right on the same page!

3)  You can check out MUCH more than books at the library. Save money checking out the latest movies from the library, available in DVD or Blu-Ray. This year, the library added video games to the catalog so now patrons can check out the most popular games on Nintendo Switch, XBOX, or Playstation.

4)  Before you borrow something, see if it is available at the library. Delaware Libraries has a Library of Things collection, chock full of different items and devices you can borrow for FREE with your DE Library card. Items like telescopes, induction stove tops, blood pressure cuffs, board games, garden tools, cameras, laptops, WiFi hotspots...just to name a FEW!

5)  Save money on museum tickets with your library card! With the Museum Pass Program, patrons can reserve special passes with their library card to many amazing local Delaware sights! Including all DE state parks, Winterthur Museum, Brandywine Zoo, Rockwood Park and Museum, and more! Each pass can include admission up to two people/pass or, sometimes, even a whole family! 6) Watch your money grow using the DHSS Library's Savings Plan!

DHSS Library Savings Plan (table)
Keep track of the books you read/listen to each month, put in the retail price you WOULD HAVE paid if you didn't get it at the library, then add up the total at the end of the month!
(By following this plan, DHSS Librarian Michelle has saved over $3000 so far this year!!)

Email the DHSS Librarians with any questions about how to save money by using the library.
