People with serious mental illness get sick and die 10-20 years earlier than their same age cohort. Although multiple interventions have emerged as ways to combat these health challenges, additional research is necessary for the continued development and evaluation of strategies. Community health workers (CHWs) are an increasingly important member of the healthcare and public health professions who help build primary care capacity. Attachment theory-based treatments including depth psychology, somatic psychology, holistic therapy, and EMDR are becoming even more popular and desired both by clinicians, health systems and the patients they care for. Up until recently, cognitive behavioral therapy and medication management were the mainstay for trauma informed care, although we are witnessing a demand for a more somatic, holistic, and therefore deeper level of treatment to target attachment injury and change/rewrite the trauma narrative.
