Grooming Behavior in Athletics
Register here.
This presentation will focus on aspects that relate to human trafficking in the world of athletics. Young athletes and their families strive to attain success at the highest levels of their sport and entrust seemingly qualified adults with their development. We will use examples of ways the power dynamic between young athletes and their coaches, administrators, and other authority figures have contributed to sexual abuse, grooming, and other inappropriate behaviors. We will also examine ways to prevent this behavior and provide examples best practices Wilmington University uses to do so.

The EQ Advantage: Leverage Emotional and Social Intelligence to Sustain Helping Professionals
Register here.
Emotional & Social Intelligence (EQ) is now considered one of the most coveted interpersonal skills in the workplace (World Economic Forum, 2020). For the helping professional, these skills hold even more value due to the high rate of burnout and compassion fatigue within these fields (Grant, 2015). This challenge is particularly evident for those who work with victims of Human Trafficking. Providing aftercare to such vulnerable populations exacts a heavy psychological and emotional toll, emphasizing the need for increased support for those who provide this service (Kenny, Staniforth, & Vernals, 2023). In this breakout session, we will focus on building emotional and social intelligence skills as a pathway towards higher levels of personal resilience. Participants will engage in EI and SI assessments, learning ways to increase mental strength, manage stress, set boundaries, grow resilience and build a strong support network.
