December is Safe Toys and Gifts Month

This observance was started by Prevent Blindness America to raise awareness to inspect toys before purchasing to prevent related injuries. Every year, thousands of children under 14 suffer serious eye injuries or even blindness from toy-related injuries. Toy-related injuries can include choking, falling, drowning, and even motor accidents (Emergency Center).

Prevent Blindness America has a list of guidelines that should be followed if you are planning on purchasing for young children this holiday season.
According to PBA, there are three important ways to prevent injuries while playing with toys:
- Only buy toys meant for their age
- Show them how to use their toys safely
- Keep an eye on them when they play

Check out 20 of the most dangerous toys in history (Good Housekeeping).
Recognize any from your childhood?
