CDC's Antibiotic Stewardship Training Plan
Modules can be taken in any order. Each module can be taken outside of the training plan by going to TRAIN's search page and entering the key words "Antibiotic Stewardship Course". Select the courses you would like to take and add them to Your Learning.
This interactive web-based activity designed to help clinicians optimize antibiotic use to combat antibiotic resistance and improve healthcare quality and patient safety.
Module 1: This course includes information about antibiotic resistance, how antibiotic resistance occurs and the impact of antibiotic-resistant infections. This course also highlights leading antibiotic-resistant pathogens of concern and strategies to combat antibiotic resistance.
Module 2: This course includes information about how antibiotic use can lead to antibiotic-related adverse events, including disruptions to the human microbiome and Clostridioides difficile infection.
Module 3: This course describes the evidence for improving antibiotic use across the healthcare spectrum, with a focus on CDC’s Core Elements of Antibiotic Stewardship. This course also demonstrates how antibiotic stewardship can lead to improvements in patient outcomes.
Module 4 : This course describes antibiotic prescribing practices and trends in the United States, as well as common types of inappropriate prescribing and barriers to appropriate outpatient antibiotic prescribing.
Module 5: This course will discuss the importance of antibiotic stewardship in outpatient settings, the Core Elements of Outpatient Antibiotic Stewardship, and evidenced based strategies to implement the Core Elements.
Module 6: This course describes the importance of and strategies for improving communication about outpatient antibiotic prescribing and use.
Module 7: This course focuses on antibiotic stewardship in hospitals.
Module 8: This course focuses on antibiotic stewardship in long-term care facilities.
Module 9 : This course focuses on antibiotic use considerations in dentistry.
**The Antibiotic Stewardship courses have Continuing Education available. Continuing education certificates are not issued within TRAIN. In order to receive continuing education (CE) please visit TCEO and follow these 9 Simple Steps.
To receive a CDC certificate of completion in TRAIN, you must select None (no CE/audit). More information can be found in each module's course details.
