Cover ArtThe Neurology of AIDS by Howard E. Gendelman; Igor Grant; Ian Paul Everall, ,; Howard S. Fox, ,; Harris A. Gelbard, ,; Susan Swindells (Editor); Stuart A. Lipton (Editor)
ISBN: 9780195399349
Publication Date: 2011-11-29
Neurological complications of progressive HIV-1 infection remain a common cause of morbidity even during widespread use of antiretroviral therapy (ART). Long-term resistance to ART, drug compliance, untoward drug side effects, a myriad of opportunistic infection, depression and other psychiatric disease manifestations, concomitant drug abuse, neuropathies, and an inability to clear viral reservoirs, explain, in large measure, disease progression and immune deterioration. These are associated with a number of psychiatric, muscle, nerve, infectious, as well as cognitive, behavioral, and motor disturbances seen in infected people. Fully updated from the previous two editions and replete with color images, The Neurology of AIDS, Third Edition covers each of these neurological complications and more with a focus on molecular and viral disease processes, cellular factors influencing viral replication therapeutic challenges, and the changing epidemiological patterns of disease. From basic science to clinical care, to epidemiological disease patters, The Neurology of AIDS is the only complete textbook available on AIDS neurology and the only one comprehensive enough to stand alone in each segment of study in brain disorders affected by the human immunodeficiency virus. It is an indispensable resource for students, resident physicians, practicing physicians, and for researchers and experts in the HIV/AIDS field.

Cover ArtAtlas of AIDS Co-Infection by Liu Jinxin (Editor); Tang Xiaoping (Editor); Zhuang Qiuwan (Contribution by)
ISBN: 9783110353921
Publication Date: 2015-12-14
the Atlas of AIDS Co-infection illustrates imaging features and clinical outcomes of AIDS related diseases. The common/uncommon opportunistic infections and malignancies are well covered, including bacterial (e.g. Staphylococcus, Rhodococcus equi), fungal (e.g. Penicillium marneffei, Pneumocystis pneumonia, Pulmonary aspergillosis, Mucormycosis) and mycobacterial infections (Mycobacterium tuberculosis, Non-tuberculous Mycobacteria), lymphoma, as well as AIDS related disease in children with AIDS. Excellent photographs (X-ray and CT imaging) reveal the common imaging features of different diseases in different stages of treatment. Co-infections are common in the late stage of AIDS, consistent with considerable overlap of CT findings that are displayed in one single section and some of the cases in several sections. At last, there are excellent descriptions of differential diagnosis based on the same appearance (e.g. diffuse pulmonary miliary nodules, mediastinal and abdominal lymphadenopathy). Learning variety of different imaging will enrich the radiologists experience and knowledge about AIDS-related diseases, and also help clinicians making timely diagnosis and appropriate optimal treatment. It belongs in the library of each Radiologist, HIV expert and all of who care about Infectious Diseases.

Cover ArtThree Decades of HIV/AIDS in Asia by Jai P. Narain (Editor)
ISBN: 9788132109075
Publication Date: 2012-11-07
A work by health and development experts and professionals, this well-researched compilation traces the evolving and highly dynamic nature of HIV/AIDS and its unprecedented health and development threat in Asia. Three decades of HIV/AIDS in Asia studies how the region has responded to this epidemic in the last three decades. It contains country-specific chapters on the HIV/AIDS problem--low-prevalence countries such as Bangladesh and Sri Lanka as well as countries with advanced epidemics such as Cambodia, China, India, Pakistan, Thailand and Vietnam--and the evolving response to it. There is recognition of the fact that Asia remains the hardest hit after Africa. The lesson learnt from the Asian countries show that HIV can be prevented and clinically managed with sustained political commitment, adequate human and financial resources, and inter-sectoral action. With the modus operandi of real-life stories and case studies, this work is highly relevant in assessing the ground reality and the measures required for effective prevention, treatment, and care across the continuum.
