Hot Tips on How to Stay Cool
The key to self-care is listening to your body, especially during the summer months.
If you are feeling fatigued, it is a sign to slow down and cool off.

Signs of Heat-Related Illness (CDC)

Spend time near water
The sound of moving water is soothing and brings clarity. Take a dip in the pool or take some time to visit the beach or waterfront this summer!

Cool towels make the difference!
As you come home from a long hot day, have a fresh cool towel at the ready! Apply a cold towel to major pressure points, like wrists and necks, for instant relief. As a nice little bonus, add some essential oils like lavender for extra relaxation.

Eat to hydrate
Enjoy foods with high water content to stay hydrated this summer. This can include fruits and vegetables, like watermelon, cucumbers, and grapes.

Get creative with ice cubes!
Add your favorite fruits, herbs, or even flowers to your ice cubes to add flavor and color to your next drink! Make coffee ice cubes to add to your iced coffee so it is never watered down.

Heat can escalate quickly
Excessive heat is the leading cause of weather-related deaths in the United States. Protect yourself during excessive heat and stay weather-ready by avoiding strenuous activities, wearing light clothing, staying in cool areas or shade, and drinking plenty of water.

Dress for comfort and protection
Wear light, breathable clothing like sundresses or shorts to allow for more air flow to give the body time to cool. Avoid dark colors as it collects more heat than lighter or pastel colors. Wear a hat for shade and protect your head and face from the sun.

Put on sunscreen!
Applying a good amount of SPF (up to 50 is perfect) with other protection like sunglasses and hats reduces sun burn, inflammation, and even fine lines and wrinkles!
