Healthy Beginnings, Hopeful Futures
April 7th is honored annually by the World Health Organization, highlighting a different global health issue.
For 2025, this year's focus is on maternal and newborn health, working to end preventable maternal and newborn deaths, and to prioritize women's longer-term health and well-being.
This task is critical. Tragically, based on currently published estimates, close to 300 000 women lose their life due to pregnancy or childbirth each year, while over 2 million babies die in their first month of life and around 2 million more are stillborn. That’s roughly 1 preventable death every 7 seconds. (Credit: World Health Organization)
Pregnancy, and life with a new baby, are times of immense transition.
If someone you know who is pregnant or has a new baby, there are plenty of ways that you can lean in and provide help.
Checking in with them, being there for them if they need it, and offering emotional support and understanding.
