Delaware Center for the Book: Home

Every year, a list of books representing the literary heritage of the 50 states, the District of Columbia and the U.S. Virgin Islands is distributed by the Library of Congress's Center for the Book during the National Book Festival. Each book is selected by a Center for the Book state affiliate or state library and most are for children and young readers. Books may be written by authors from the state, take place in the state, or celebrate the state’s culture and heritage. Why not read the book suggested for Delaware and then learn, through these books, about the other places that interest you?

Delaware's Selections since 2002

The 2025 National Book Festival will be held in the nation’s capital at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center on Saturday, September 6, from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. The event is free and open to the public. A selection of programs will be livestreamed online and videos of all programs will be available shortly after the Festival.

The Delaware Center for the Book, established in 2003, is a state affiliate of the Center for the Book in the Library of Congress. Today, there is a State Center for the Book in all 50 states, as well as the District of Columbia and the U.S. Virgin Islands. These Center for the Book affiliates carry out the national Center's mission in their local areas, sponsor programs that highlight their area's literary heritage and call attention to the importance of books, reading, literacy and libraries.

The Summer Library Reading Program assists children in maintaining their reading skills over the summer, encourages an appreciation of the library and its resources and fosters a life-long love of reading and learning.

Delaware is a member of the Collaborative Summer Library Program, a consortium of state libraries that work together to produce high-quality, low-cost programs and materials to libraries in their states.
