News & Updates

Status of Selected Departments and Agencies

The following information will be updated as information becomes available.

Congressional agencies are open, including:

Department of Agriculture - "This website will not be updated during a lapse in federal funding. Content on this  website will not be current or maintained until funding issues have been resolved." 

The Farm Service Agency office in Georgetown, shuttered since the federal government shutdown began in December, will open for three days in the next week to help farmers with limited services. That office, at 21315 Berlin Road, will be open Thursday, Friday and Tuesday, Jan. 22, the U.S. Department of Agriculture announced. Farm Service Agency offices in Kent and New Castle counties will remain closed. -

Department of Commerce - "The U.S. Department of Commerce is closed." Websites will not be updated.

  • Census Bureau - "Due to a lapse in federal funding portions of this website are not being updated."
  • NOAA - "This site will not be updated; however NOAA websites and social media channels necessary to protect lives and property will be maintained. See for critical weather information.
  • U.S. Patent and Trademark Office - open

Department of Defense - open

Department of Education - open

Department of Energy - open

Environmental Protection Agency - open. Websites will not be regularly updated.

Department of Health and Human Services - open

Department of Homeland Security - closed. "Website will not be actively managed."

Department of Housing and Urban Development - closed. "Websites will be not updated until further notice."

Department of the Interior - websites not updated

  • Bureau of Land Management - "Shutdown. In the event of a lapse in appropriations, the Bureau of Land Management will be closed. During this shutdown, this website is not being updated and may not reflect current conditions."
  • National Park Service - While some parks may be open; no visitor services will be provided, such as restrooms, road maintenance, etc. First State National Historical Park During the government furlough, operations and visitor services at First State NHP will continue as normal at all partner sites. However, the Beaver Valley Unit will not be staffed, so please call 911 for any emergency situations.
  • U.S. Fish and Wildlife - all units of the National Wildlife Refuge System nationwide are closed to public visitation and use.  Includes Prime Hook National Wildlife Refuge, Bombay Hook National Wildlife Refuge. Website not maintained.

Department of Justice - Closed. Essential law enforcement and national security functions will continue. Websites will not be regularly updated.

Department of Labor - open

Department of State - "Website updates will be limited until full operations resume."

Department of Transportation - Some functions closed. Websites not updated.

Department of the Treasury - Some functions closed. Websites not updated.

  • Internal Revenue Service - Confirmed that it will process tax returns beginning Jan. 29, 2019 and provide refunds to taxpayers as scheduled.

Department of Veterans Affairs - open

Commissions, other agencies, etc.

Consumer Product Safety Commission - closed

Federal Communications Commission - The FCC suspended most operations.

Federal Election Commission - closed

Federal Trade Commission - closed.

National Archives - "Due to the shutdown of the Federal Government, National Archives facilities are closed, websites and social media are not being updated or monitored, and activities are canceled, with the following exceptions which remain open and operational: Federal Records Centers, Federal Register, the Ronald Reagan Museum, and the George W. Bush Museum."

Security and Exchange Commission - closed. "The agency will have a very limited number of staff members available to respond to emergency situations involving market integrity and investor protection, including law enforcement."

Smithsonian Museums -  All Smithsonian Museums and The National Zoo are closed. - Official website of US government. Available but not updated.
